Frequently Asked Questions

What is Ecotherapy?

Ecotherapy is an umbrella term that is used to describe any therapeutic activity that is done within the natural environment. This could be things like gardening, wild swimming, forest bathing etc.

In the context of The Rooted Path, Ecotherapy is the integration of Ecopsychology principles and models in to my therapeutic work as a psychotherapist. A simple way of thinking of this is that I use nature as a second therapist and consider individuals as part of a wider ecosystem as well as in the context of their own lives and challenges.

Does it involve a lot of chanting or hugging of trees?

No it does not! Or I should say, no it does not unless you would like it to! The work that you do will be led by you and your relationship to the land in that particular moment. The activities that we undertake are invitations to connect with nature in a way that feels right for you and you will never be asked to do anything that you feel uncomfortable with.

What kinds of things will we do on a Rooted Mama course?

The activities that we do on the day change depending on the needs of the group.  Grounding activities, guided meditation, personal reflection, woodland crafts, sensory led practice, journaling, storytelling and group discussion/reflection are all examples of things that we may engage in. You do not have to have any experience in any of these things in order to attend. There are also frequent tea drinking and cake eating opportunities throughout the course.

Can I bring my child to a Rooted Mama's course?

The Rooted Mama course is a space that is designed to focus on the needs of the mum and because of this, children are not able to attend. The course is instead split in to 2 x 3hr sessions to support women being able to attend around childcare commitments.

If the weather is bad, will you call a course off?

Given the nature of Ecotherapy, we are always at the mercy of the weather and 'bad' weather often gives us opportunities to engage with nature on a deep level. Courses will run in good or bad weather and should not be considered weather dependent. The exceptions to this would be if being outdoors posed any physical risk to participants (such as during a Red Weather warning).

Do you offer 1:1 Therapy sessions?

Yes, I do offer 1:1 Therapy sessions for women who feel like Ecotherapy may be beneficial to them. Please see my 'About me' page for details about me. If you are interested in discussing 1:1 sessions, please feel free to drop me an email and I will contact you to have a chat about your needs.
